We have ethical permission to collect anonymized blood samples to allow assessment of cellular function in assays targeting cell types and blood constituents which are labile or intolerant to shipping; such as neutrophils or platelets. Our trained phlebotomists are able to ethically consent donors and collect blood samples into a range of anti-coagulants suitable to the assay of choice. Fresh blood samples are frequently used to validate clinical biomarker assays, mimicking collection, storage, and shipping. This allows us to obtain an understanding of the stability of the cell types and target molecules of interest to determine whether the assay is fit for purpose.
